Cape Fear River

This was a really relaxing 2 day kayak/camping trip down the Cape Fear River, in North Carolina, that I took with a coworker in 2002.

Intrepid explorers

This obviously was not a Class IV river!

Hardwoods hanging over the bank.

River opens up beautifully..

I think this was approaching our campsite.  This picture belies Dave's exhaustion.  The day was growing long and we had to hurry to make camp before dark.  More importantly, we had to race incredibly hard to beat these two women who made quite a sight.  We came upon them eating crackers "to regain their strength," then they set out in their canoe, singing along merrily as they paddled.  But the fact is they were smoking our behinds, which was becoming embarrassing, so we put the hammer down and paddled Olympian style to beat them to the campground.

Coming up on some rapids.  Or is that looking back on them?  Anyway, it was a nice lazy short weekend trip.
